Some of the most meaningful ideas don't start with a grand plan. They begin with a memory. When we designed Jilly and Riley, we found ourselves thinking about the little moments that made childhood special, like stopping by the bakery after school for a warm egg tart or cooling off with shaved ice on a summer afternoon.

Those memories inspired two of our signature doll accessories. Jilly's chef hat flips inside out to become L'il Tart, a smiling egg tart buddy, while Riley's bucket hat flips inside out to become Chilly Cheeks, a cheerful dessert companion. These playful transformations celebrate the everyday foods, family traditions, and childhood memories that many Asian American families know and love.

Flipping the Script

As an Asian American doll company, we wanted to celebrate culture in ways that felt joyful, creative, and unexpected. Rather than relying on cultural stereotypes, we looked to the everyday experiences that brought us happiness growing up.

Food has always been one of those experiences. Egg tarts, shaved ice, and other familiar Asian treats aren't just things we eat. They're connected to family outings, celebrations, and moments spent together. Turning Jilly's hat into L'il Tart and Riley's hat into Chilly Cheeks became our playful way of flipping the script on what it means to be Asian American. Instead of defining our culture through stereotypes, we chose to celebrate the small, joyful moments that many families recognize and cherish.

Encouraging Imaginative Play

One flip of Jilly's hat can completely change the story. One moment she's wearing her chef's hat while baking cookies, and the next, L'il Tart joins the adventure as a cheerful little companion. Riley's bucket hat transforms into Chilly Cheeks just as easily, giving children another playful character to include in their stories.

Simple doll accessories like these encourage imaginative play because every adventure can unfold in a different way. Whether children are opening a pretend bakery, serving sweet treats to friends, or creating an entirely new adventure, these playful moments help inspire creativity and storytelling. This kind of imaginative play helps children build confidence as they explore different characters, ideas, and experiences.
